Know-Isms
By addressing multiple “isms, ” — heterosexism, sexism, classism, racism, ageism, sizeism, colorism, nativism, cisgenderism (transphobia) — Know-Isms tackles difficult topics head-on to create equity and acknowledge identity.
Through in-depth conversations that make sense of current events via news and media, we explore intersectionality and offer a safe space for questions and new understanding.
What a Know-Isms session looks like
Empathy-Based Community Building
Communication is key to building community. Through empathy-based conversations, participants find understanding in sharing their own perspectives and experiences. In building that initial foundation of trust, we take the first step toward mutual respect.
Media-Led Cultural Immersion
Through guided conversation, we process current events through the lens of news and media while exploring how social and political identities may impact perspective — all in an effort to spark new understanding.
Intersectional Conversations
The compounded effects of multiple “isms” are widely misunderstood and unacknowledged. With space for anonymous reflection, each session offers opportunities to examine privilege, while building compassion for others.
